Do you have a “go to” breakfast? Mine is a smoothie, I have one almost daily and flip flop between two recipes, a “green” smoothie and a chocolate smoothie.   In the past I made my green smoothies green by adding a couple handfuls of spinach to them.  This year I jumped on the matcha wagon and now I add a bit of matcha to my smoothies (in addition to my spinach) to enhance the green color and give my smoothie a little caffeine/antioxidant boost! Check out my simple 4 ingredient matcha latte to read more about the health benefits of this trendy tea.

Another nutrition trend of 2017 is collagen.  There are many proposed benefits to this unique source of protein but one of my favorite things about using collagen peptides is the powder SO easily dissolves in any hot or cold beverage making it the perfect way to sneak protein into your favorite beverage or recipe.  I also love it because collagen peptides (depending on the brand and other added ingredients) happen to be suitable for those following a gluten free, dairy free, paleo, or low FODMAP diet.  I like to use Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides (ONE ingredient guys) and their new Matcha Collagen.

  2. Add the collagen and blend on LOW for about 20 seconds to incorporate.

  3. Pour into a glass, top with granola (optional), and enjoy!
