The month is coming to a close, and for the month of October Banza pasta has been doing a #BanzaPlus5 challenge. The challenge: create a dish using Banza + 5 other ingredients. I mulled on ideas all month. Honestly, our normal pasta dishes are not super photogenic (think roasted broccoli, ground turkey, marinara, Banza pasta) so I wanted to try something different. I’ve always wanted to try my hand at a nutritional yeast cheez sauce but when I look up recipes online I see “soak raw cashews overnight” and they lose me. I set out to find/create a recipe that could be made with ingredients I always have on hand. Enter this recipe from Oh She Glows. I modified it a little bit so that it truly had 5 ingredients for the #BanzaPlus5 challenge, and it is AMAZING as is, but the Oh She Glows recipe adds in a few spices. I was legitimately blown away by how creamy the sauce is and how flavorful it is for only having 5 ingredients. I hope you enjoy it too!
5 Ingredient Vegan Cheez Sauce
Ingredients
- 1.5 tbsp vegan butter (I used Earth Balance)
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1 tbsp Bob's Red Mill 1:1 Gluten Free Flour
- 6 tbsp nutritional yeast
- 1 tsp red pepper flakes
Instructions
-
In a small sauce pan melt vegan butter on medium heat.
-
In a small bowl whisk together the almond milk and gluten free flour until no clumps remain.
-
Add gluten free flour/almond milk mixture and nutritional yeast to saucepan and whisk to combine. Reduce heat to low.
-
Whisk mixture frequently and cook for about 5 minutes until sauce has thickened (If it feels to thick/thin you can add more almond milk or flour until you get a consistency you like).
-
Remove from heat. Use to top pasta or roasted veggies. Sprinkle red pepper flakes to taste over dish. Leftovers can be stored in airtight container in the fridge for 4 days.
