4 Ingredient Matcha Latte

Ever since I went to Hermosa Beach for a rotation of my dietetic internship I’ve been all about an almond milk matcha latte.  The best part about matcha lattes? They are super easy to make.  You might be thinking – “what is matcha exactly? why is it so green? Is it really good for me?” – for evidenced based info about the health benefits of matcha check out this article.  In short, matcha is a great source of antioxidants and research shows regular consumption could lower the risk of liver and heart diseases, lower LDL cholesterol, improve cognition, decrease cancer risk,  and promote weight loss.  However, too much of anything can counteract these benefits – limit your matcha consumption to 1-2 cups per day.  This is the recipe I’ve found to be easiest with the equipment we have on hand.

Matcha Latte

Prep Time 5 minutes
Total Time 5 minutes
Servings 1 latte

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1 tsp matcha powder
  • 1 packet stevia
  • 1 cup almond milk

Instructions

  1. Measure out one cup of almond milk and steam or microwave to desired temperature (about 140-150 degrees Fahrenheit).

  2. Add about 2 tbsp hot water to a mug or mason jar. Add 1 tbsp matcha and stevia (you could also use a tsp honey) and mix using an aero latte (pictured above) or bamboo whisk.

  3. Pour in heated/steamed milk and mix to combine using bamboo whisk or spoon. Enjoy! You could also add all ingredients to a Vitamix blender and blend to combine, this works especially well for an iced matcha latte.

Looking to take your matcha latte up a notch or two? Try adding 1 shot of espresso or a scoop of collagen peptides, I like to use Vital Proteins Matcha Collagen.
